Vehicles last fifteen to forty years, the lifespan of an IT system (both hardware and software) is much shorter, especially given the current pace of development. On top of that, vehicle IT becomes more than just a collection of technical components.
Its value depends on how reliably on-board systems can work in tandem with off-board/Backoffice functions such as planning, maintenance, monitoring, energy supply, road-infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Current challenges faced by Public transport operators
Many transport operators still operate within a landscape that is shaped by legacy choices and, often, vendor lock-in. This increases complexity and vulnerability at a time when the sector requires greater agility, reliability, and controllability. To resolve this, there is a need for a future proof, interoperable architecture.
