ICT Group Water Congres 2026
- 28 October 2026
- 10:00 - 17:30
- Nieuwegein
Do you work for a water authority, drinking water company, municipality, engineering firm, or consultancy, and are you involved in (process) automation, optimisation, or digitalisation within wastewater, surface water, or drinking water? Then this is the congress you do not want to miss.
Why attend?
The water sector is facing major challenges: climate change, stricter regulations, increasing digitalisation, and the urgent need for sustainability. During the ICT Group Water Congress 2026, we will demonstrate how the sector is evolving towards a smart, secure, and sustainable future. Digitalisation is the connecting factor, from using data for real-time decision-making to protecting critical infrastructure and creating a circular water chain.
Programme
On 28 October, experts and industry peers will demonstrate how digitalisation is helping to create a smarter, safer and more sustainable water sector. Through practical case studies, including one from the Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland, you will discover how cyber-secure process automation can reduce fragmentation and provide greater control for the future.
In addition to this case study, the congress offers a varied programme covering the entire digital water cycle. Expect inspiring sessions on data platforms and data validation, Advanced Monitoring & Control for optimising wastewater treatment processes, and the development of the new Water Chain application for six Dutch water authorities.
Partners including ABB, Schneider Electric, AVEVA, Siemens, Cimpro, IQ Messenger, Phoenix Contact and Witteveen+Bos will also share their expertise and practical experience.

Cyber-secure process automation at Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland: from fragmentation to future-ready control
We would like to highlight one of the presentations from this year's programme.
Discover how Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland has made the process automation of its pumping stations and weirs future-proof and cyber-secure. Daan Karman (Rijnland) and Marcia Almekinders (Phoenix Contact) will explain why they selected PLCnext Technology, based on IEC 62443 and additional standards such as BIO and NIS2.
You will learn how a fragmented PLC landscape is being transformed into a standardised, manageable and secure architecture, covering everything from procurement decisions to network protocols and monitoring.
This session is highly recommended for anyone involved in developing safe and reliable infrastructure within the water sector.
