ICT Knowledge Hub: Software Quality as a System
Why your software quality problem is probably not a code quality problem
- November 17, 2026
- 17.00 - 21.00 uur
- ICT Improve Eindhoven
Bugs keep returning. Releases remain tense. Teams point to requirements, design, implementation, testing, tooling or planning. Improvement initiatives are started with good intentions, but often lose momentum or fail to address the real cause.
So perhaps the problem is not where we usually look.
What if software quality is not primarily a code quality problem?
What if it is not even primarily a testing problem?
What if software quality is an emergent property of the system that creates the software?
On 17 November, Ger Cloudt, author of What is Software Quality? and The 1+3 Software Quality Model, will join the ICT Knowledge Hub for an interactive evening on Software Quality as a System. During the session, he will introduce the 1+3 Software Quality Model, a framework that views software quality through four connected domains: Organizational Quality as the enabling system, and Design Quality, Code Quality and Product Quality as the resulting qualities.
Together, we will use the model to explore:
- Why many quality improvement initiatives fail to create lasting change;
- Whether quality problems usually originate in code, design, product decisions or the wider organization;
- Why leadership behaviour may have more impact on quality than technical practices alone;
- How testers, developers, architects, product owners and managers can recognise systemic quality issues earlier;
- Whether tooling, culture, strategy, skills or code are the real bottlenecks in your context.
Most importantly, we will challenge the model using your own experience.
Bring your strongest opinions, your biggest quality failures and your toughest questions. You may leave with a completely different view of software quality.

Who should join?
This evening is relevant for testers, test managers, developers, software architects, product owners, quality leads, engineering managers, requirements specialists and anyone involved in building, testing or improving software-intensive systems.
You do not need to be an expert in software quality models. Curiosity, practical experience and a willingness to join the conversation are enough.
ICT Knowledge Hub
ICT Knowledge Hub is a series of interactive theme evenings where we explore modern system development together. From testing to requirements, from software quality to Domain-Driven Design and Living Documentation: each event offers space for reflection, practical experience and open discussion.
We invite speakers from the field and from academia, and offer a platform to people with something valuable to share. The goal is not to sell a method or promote a tool, but to strengthen the community by learning together.
Come for the knowledge, stay for the conversation.
