Elsco Drankenhandel optimizes delivery service to catering sector with ICT Logistics

ICT Logistics' last-mile solution provides the catering sector with the right beverage products at the right time.

Elsco Drankenhandel was founded in 1962 from a merger between two liquor stores and lemonade factories. The company works in collaboration with the world's largest brewery, AB-InBev, known for strong brands such as Hertog Jan, Jupiler and Leffe. Since 2014, Elsco Drankenhandel has been part of the Horeca Foodgroup.

More insights and fewer errors

Elsco Drankenhandel was faced with a double challenge: gain more 'real time' insight into the delivery process and say goodbye to the often error-prone paper administration and manual processing. Accurately recording returned kegs and other packaging was an area of key importance and crucial focus within their operations.

In addition, Elsco Drankenhandel wanted to improve its services to customers and gain more control and insight into the status and delivery of its products. "We had been in discussions with Elsco Drankenhandel for some time about the possibilities of ICT Logistics' last mile solution," says

Patrick Nesse, Business Development Executive at ICT Logistics. "Rob van Buuren was immediately enthusiastic about the solution’s functionality, but interfacing with Kick-ICT's existing ERP system was initially seen as a challenge." The last mile solution is an application that helps companies make their delivery processes more efficient. It offers features such as real-time route information, digital delivery notes, packaging registration, and the ability to immediately flag exceptions and deviations in
the delivery process. The solution ensures that data is automatically processed in the company's ERP system, eliminating paper administration and reducing human error. This makes delivery not only faster, but also more accurate and transparent.

"In the end, our integration process proceeded quickly and smoothly. Moreover, Elsco Drankenhandel shows that the solution is also suitable for organisations with smaller fleets. Thanks to the low entry costs, we were able to realise a balanced business case here too," Nesse adds.

More control over deliveries

The last mile solution is currently being used by several drivers. Thanks to this solution, processes such as displaying a digital route list, registering packaging, capturing digital signatures, route navigation and recording exceptions are fully digitised and integrated into daily routes.

"It’s great to see how well our last mile solution solves Elsco Drankenhandel's challenges without any need for customisation," says Pascal Kock, Business Consultant at ICT Logistics. "The solution offers a wide array of features, which enables us to offer a fully standardised implementation. This reduces the risks that are often involved in customisation, but it also ensures a shorter implementation time. This allows us to focus on training the users and commissioning the solution."

All shipments and packaging are recorded digitally during customer visits, which has resulted in a significantly reduced number of delivery errors. The data is fed back in real time from the field and automatically processed in the ERP system. In case of delivery deviations the solution immediately alerts the planners in the office. This allows them to contact the customer to clarify the situation even before the driver leaves the customer’s site. In addition, Elsco Drankenhandel now has an integrated chat module for internal messaging and sending notifications to drivers.

“Very user-friendly application. Should have done it years earlier. Hugely improved efficiency in handling returnable packaging.” - Rob van Buuren, Owner Elsco Drankenhandel

Transparent documentation of the delivery process

The last mile solution also allows delivery drivers to take photos of delivered products and the exact location where the delivery took place. This contributes to transparent documentation of the delivery process and can help with any questions from the recipient. What’s more, Elsco Drankenhandel sends a digital packing slip after each customer visit, which reduces the use of paper and provides customers with an additional service.

One of many innovative solutions

The last mile solution is one of many innovative solutions which ICT Logistics uses to help companies work smarter, more efficiently and more sustainably. With our advanced technologies, we support organisations on their way to a future where customer focus and sustainability are key.

“In the end, our integration process proceeded quickly and smoothly. Moreover, Elsco Drankenhandel shows that the solution is also suitable for organisations with smaller fleets. Thanks to the low entry costs, we were able to realise a balanced business case here too.” - Patrick Nesse, Business Development Executive at ICT Logistics
