ICT Group developed the central control software for a battery powered, towbarless aircraft tug designed for heavy duty ground handling.

ICT Group supported a robotics manufacturer in developing the central intelligence for a battery‑powered, towbarless aircraft tug designed for heavy‑duty ground handling. The challenge was to enable a single operator to remotely maneuver aircraft of up to 195 tons with maximum safety and precision. We designed and implemented the architecture of a central control unit that coordinates advanced robotic functions and vehicle subsystems.

Autonomous Control and Integration

The solution supports autonomous features such as line tracking, auto‑centering, oversteering protection, and multi‑wheel configurations for different aircraft types. Cloud connectivity enables remote diagnostics and secure updates of user and access data, while voice announcements improve operational awareness. Our team developed intuitive Qt‑based applications and integrated the central unit with multiple ECUs and subsystems.

Extensive testing, rollout, and on‑site maintenance ensured the system performed reliably in real operational environments. This project demonstrates how robust software and embedded robotics can transform complex machinery into safe, efficient, and user‑friendly robotic systems.
