During Public Transport Day 2026, Bob Brands (ICT Group), Robert Kalse (Keolis Nederland), Joep van Drunen (Province of South Holland) and Jan van Selm (DOVA – the Dutch Public Transport Authorities Association) discussed how travellers can retain autonomy during service disruptions. The central question was: how can passengers stay in control of their journey when things don't go according to plan?

One clear conclusion emerged: during disruptions, travellers need more than just information—they need practical, personalised advice. They understand that disruptions cannot always be avoided, but their experience is largely shaped by the support they receive to make informed decisions and remain in control of their journey. This presents a significant opportunity for public transport providers: by supporting passengers effectively when it matters most, they can build lasting trust in public transport.

Achieving this requires close collaboration and continued investment from operators, public authorities and technology partners. With Ariadne, we are developing solutions that help travellers make well-informed choices, even when services are disrupted.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.
