How ICT Logistics helped unify fragmented systems, automate billing, and create a resilient platform for long-term logistics growth.

When Röhlig Penske Logistics — the joint venture between Röhlig Logistics and Penske Logistics — set out to scale its European transport operations, it encountered a major obstacle: a patchwork of legacy IT systems that slowed processes, duplicated efforts and hindered innovation. “Each time we onboarded a new customer, we had to set up and manage master data in multiple systems,” explains Rob Clarijs, Supply Chain Manager at Röhlig Penske Logistics. “That was inefficient, time-consuming, and simply not scalable. We knew we needed a more integrated and flexible solution to grow.”

The limitations also affected collaboration with carriers and internal teams. Invoicing was manual and paper-based, and integrating with Röhlig’s broader IT landscape proved to be difficult. The goal was to build a future-proof control tower that could centralise operations, automate administrative processes, and support customer-specific needs — all while fitting into the digital backbone of the global Röhlig Group.

Co-Creating a Custom Control Tower Platform

Röhlig Penske Logistics chose ICT Logistics as its long-term technology partner. What followed was more than a software implementation — it was a collaborative design and development process grounded in shared objectives. “Our goal was not to deploy a standard off-the-shelf solution,” says Roland Kuijsten, Sales Manager at ICT Logistics. “We worked closely with Röhlig to co-create a platform that reflects their operational complexity, their industry diversity, and their need for flexibility.”

“We worked closely with Röhlig to co-create a platform that reflects their operational complexity, their industry diversity, and their need for flexibility.”

Therefore, ICT Logistics integrated multiple transport management functions into one cohesive digital environment — from dispatch planning and carrier selection to real-time visibility and automated self-billing. The platform was built to integrate seamlessly into Röhlig’s existing global infrastructure and to evolve alongside its service portfolio.

The result is a control tower system that is now fully operated across 75,000 sqm of warehouse space in Germany and the Netherlands, handling transport flows for customers in industries such as chemicals, healthcare, white goods and automotive.

Key features include:

  • Centralised transport management: From order to invoice, everything happens on one platform.
  • Automated self-billing: Carriers can approve pre-calculated transport costs digitally, drastically reducing admin time and eliminating billing disputes.
  • Full integration: The system is now part of Röhlig’s broader IT landscape, reducing reliance on third-party solutions.
  • Transparency by design: Real-time data enables Röhlig and its customers to track, optimise and report on transport flows and emissions.

“The invoicing module alone has saved both us and our carriers an enormous amount of time and paperwork,” says Clarijs. “If there’s a question, the system gives us all the data we need to resolve it quickly and transparently.”

Built for growth — and for the future

The platform provides Röhlig Penske Logistics with a stable digital backbone — not just to scale operations, but to innovate with confidence. The company is well positioned to grow its customer base and to strengthen its service portfolio. “ICT Logistics took the time to truly understand our business and delivered a solution tailored not only to our current needs, but also designed to support our long-term success,” says Calrijs. “Together with ICT Logistics, we are already working on the next generation of features — especially in the areas of sustainability and supply chain resilience.”
