High quality and prepared for unexpected errors

In modern vehicles, more and more mechanical components are being replaced by smart, electrical or mechatronic components. For instance: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), advanced driver assistance systems that support drivers to drive more safely and comfortably. One error in these systems (such as a defect in a smart wing mirror) can lead to a hazardous situation for the occupants and/or bystanders. To prevent such dangerous situations, the first thing we need to do is make sure that the systems contain as few errors as possible. In other words: the higher the software quality, the lower the chance of unsafe situations.

However, the software chain is so complex that even comprehensive software tests are insufficient. For this reason, developing in accordance with the ISO 26262 standard also means reckoning with the unknown and being prepared for unforeseen errors that may occur. To achieve this, every step must be traceable: requirements, architecture, software code, and testing.
